Straits of Mackinaw

The straits of Mackinaw separate Lake Huron from Lake Michigan. Coming out of Canada and Lake Huron, it was a magnificent sight to see the huge 5 mile long Mackinaw Bridge looming on the horizon.

Coming abeam of Mackinac Island, it is easy to see the huge Grand Hotel situated on a bluff over looking the city.

The straits of Mackinac are a busy place for boaters. Between the commercial traffic of large container ships to the tourist boats pulling para-sailors behind their boat and the numerous high speed ferries running between Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City, it is no time to be less than vigilant as we approach the marina in Mackinaw City.
