Baltimore brings back fond memories. One of the reasons we stopped here was to see Bill Shermer, who owned Blue Goose Charters. Sara and I gained experience on a single engine, 36' trawler on 2007 with him. It was a sad day. We discovered he had passed away in 2012.
Jack spent a lot of time and money making me comfortable and knowledgeable about boating, trawlers, and the Great Loop. It was our plan to visit one of our many wonderful trainers and say thank you. We wanted him to know we are "living the dream" and he helped make this possible. As a teacher, I know what it means to see a student reach their goal and come back to say, thank you.
Rest in peace, Bill Shermer.
Also on our Baltimore agenda was Jack's tour of the USS Constellation, while I went shopping.
Getting round Baltimore was simplified by the purchase of an all day water pass for the Water Taxi.
Leaving Baltimore we past Ft McHenry. This is the fort that Frances Scott Key saw as he was held prisoner on a ship in the Baltimore Harbour during the war of 1812. He was so inspired by the sight of the Star-Spangled Banner he wrote the poem that later became the song.
Our trip to Delaware City was an easy crossing. Light winds out of the SSE, cool temp. in the low 60's. A beautiful sunny day. The Bay was almost flat calm. The C&D canal was no problem.
We arrived in Delaware City and tied up at the face dock with current pushing from the back and wind pushing on the bow. Exciting!
